Initial idea 2: Facial Recognition Technology (Edited)

Facial recognition technology (FRT) is improving by leaps and bounds. Society, including law enforcement, is struggling to keep pace with these seemingly daily developments. Some commercial software can now tell the gender of a person in a photograph. I am curious about this technology and how they work and how they are developed with the use of artificial intelligence and computer science. In this article on facial emotion recognition, I learn that they have a capability to examine the sentiment of human beings. This means that there will be an urgent need to mimic the human coding skills and the non verbal. I also learned that it utilizes the image and identify that whether the human being is happy or sad (Zhong, 2021). Generally, facial recognition technology (FRT) creates a “template” of the target’s facial image and compares the template to photographs of preexisting images of a face(s) (known). The known photographs are found in a variety of places, including driver’s license databases, government identification records, mugshots, or social media accounts, such as Facebook (Hamann and Smith, 2019). Today, facial recognition software is being deployed by companies in various ways, including to help target product pitches based on social media profile pictures. But companies are also experimenting with face identification and other A.I. technology as an ingredient in automated decisions with higher stakes like hiring and lending (Lohr, 2018).

Strategies:

  • Deep learning
  • Machine learning
  • Facial analysis
  • Facial sensor detection
